Beyond his professional pursuits, Matthew Brunstrum enjoys following Chicago area professional sports teams like the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).

The Blackhawks prevented Alex DeBrincat from becoming a restricted free agent next season by signing the 21-year-old forward to a three-year, $19.2 million contract extension on October 3. DeBrincat will make $5.1 million in each of the first two years of the extension and $9 million in 2022-23. He will be the team’s third-highest paid forward behind Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews when his deal kicks in next season.

A native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, DeBrincat was selected by the Blackhawks in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He recorded 127 points in 63 games with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League in 2016-17 and debuted with the Blackhawks in 2017-18. He scored 28 goals and added 24 assists that year for 52 points and improved upon those numbers in 2018-19 with 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points.

Tips for Catching More Fish in Local Waters

Experienced with business valuations, due-diligence research, and negotiating the sale of businesses, Matthew Brunstrum works as the Chicago, Illinois-based firm Sun Acquisitions. When he has time off work, Matthew Brunstrum enjoys the sport of fishing to unwind and spend time in nature.

The experience of fishing can be a fun one, even if you don’t catch much fish. However, learning a bit about the best time and place to fish can help you increase your yield. For example, if you’re casting surface lures on the top of the water, your best times to fish will be dawn and dusk when fish activity is higher. However, on rainy or overcast days, you may have more luck reeling in fish on midday fishing trips.

Another tip is to watch the barometric pressure readings. When the pressure drops, fishes are encouraged to look for food or bait. Lastly, learn about the high tide and low tide times in your area. If the tide is too low, you may have trouble navigating the boat safely, or the area might not have enough water to draw a good number of fish. The best way to learn about the best times and places to fish is to talk to locals who have experience fishing in the area.

Responsible for business valuations, due-diligence research, and sales negotiation, Matthew Brunstrum has assisted numerous clients with closing business mergers and acquisitions. When he is not working at the Chicago, Illinois-based firm Sun Acquisitions, Matthew Brunstrum enjoys fishing to unwind.

The State of Illinois is a fisherman’s paradise and home to many fishing tournaments. Thanks in part to the state’s extensive fishery management operation, Illinois features many reservoirs that are ideal for fish breeding, allowing anglers to find plentiful large catfish, largemouth bass, and a wide variety of other fish.

If you’re looking for great fishing spots in Illinois, three of the best places to explore are the Mississippi River, Lake Michigan, and Heidecke Lake. The Mississippi River gives anglers the best opportunity to land trophy catches like a jumbo catfish and other big fish. Experienced fishermen suggest looking for hidden caves where catfish lurk during the daylight, then returning at night to catch them while they are feeding.

Not far from Chicago, Lake Michigan is also one of the top places to fish in the State. Anglers can find salmon, whitefish, brown trout, and steelheads in Lake Michigan, depending on the time of year and the area where they are fishing. Also near Chicago, Heidecke Lake is a great place to find a wide variety of fish, including smallmouth, striped, largemouth, yellow bass, and northern pike, among others.

Despite missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season, the Blackhawks have a reason for optimism moving into the 2019-20 season. For starters, the team finished with three more wins and eight more points than it had in the season prior. In addition, star players Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Alex DeBrincat registered career-best totals in points.

A recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy and Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2010 and 2013, respectively, Toews finished the season with 81 points, improving upon his previous career-high of 76 points, which he set during the 2010-11 season. He also scored a career-high 35 goals after failing to score more than 28 in a single season since 2011-12. Kane, meanwhile, registered 110 points. His previous career-high was 106. A second-year player from Farmington Hills, Michigan, DeBrincat registered 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points.
